AKAI MPC1000 - Space save

You need to install JJ OS to do this.

You have 128 MB of ram to operate with if you have the memory upgrade for the unit. That's not much if you plan to use it as a sequencer for a gig unless you like to load each track and take the time. That's unprofessional to take a minute after a track and load. Not good. So here's how you can spare some space.

If you use violins, flutes or stuff like that, you know these can be long if they are bounced out and put in to the Akai as they are. A 10 sec long wav file can eat up a lot of your precious memory. Fortunately the MPC's pitching engine is pretty advanced. You can use a single sample of a violin to have an ensemble with a great sound. All you have to do is bounce a suitable violin sample without vibrato, long enough and rather low on the scale you have in your sequence. Load the sample, and the sequence. From the sequence, you can read the midi notes you need for each note. Then you set up the same sample for each midi note only pitched up to the proper note. This way the sequence will actually trigger the pitched sample. Be sure to have the sample on poly mode. Also you need to set the samples to note on mode so they are played as long as the midi note lasts. Additionally you need to give the samples some decay because the midi notes are often shorter than the samples themselves. This way you can prevent them from being chopped off suddenly when the midi note is over.

Here you go. Saved up some space.
